Women Who Inspire

4 Rockstar Women I Follow for Spirituality + Business

Gratitude.

Gratitude.

I want to thank some women for being

the pillars of knowledge and wisdom

for me that they are.

I’d also love to share these women with you so you can benefit from them too! These next 4 women are ones who have taught me a lot about how to be true a light worker AND a business maven. They show me how to fuse my authenticity and deep desire to be of service in the world, with a mindset of action + strategy, that supports me financially, physically, and emotionally.

Basically, these women Have helped me

to understand how I can fuse

my spirituality with my business,

in a really big way.

And have them become one. Which is important for me, because I don’t necessarily see barriers in my life, like work/play/purpose/relationships. All are one at the end of the day.

I personally follow each of these women for different reasons. Here they are, with a note about why I follow each of them, and some resources for you to follow up on as well!

Read on my lovely stardust mermaid beings of love! ;)

1. Gabby Bernstein

Of course. Who else. This woman is more than a woman (As we all are). She is an amazing being who has come to this planet entirely to give healing and wake people up to the truth of their happiness.

I remember when I discovered Gabby - I was still in University at the time and at a Chapters bookstore. Her bright blue hard-covered book was sitting on the shelf. It was called ‘Spirit Junkie’. Here was a beautiful young woman who was rocking it in the world of spirituality and spiritual teaching! Here was deep inspiration. I remember thinking that it wasn’t just types like Wayne Dyer who could ‘make it’ in that world. You didn’t have to have tons of life experience and be older, to know you had wisdom to give.

Something opened in me that day, and I quickly dived into Gabby’s world via the internet over the next few weeks. I downloaded her meditation albums at that time as well - and have listened to one of Gabby’s Meditations almost every day for 4 years. She is with me constantly! And taught me so much just through being a leader and a guide into my own inner worlds and inner power.

Gabby has recently (OK well not too recently) started teaching directly to budding coaches, healers, and teachers. She runs a weekend long Spirit Junkie Masterclass on how to rock it as a spiritual teacher, but you can find her free 90 minute-long videos on the topic, here and here.

2. Erika Sheffer

Erika is fairly new to me (I found her a couple of months ago), yet she has quickly ignited a fire in my world that has already produced some serious ripples! Erika is a business coach. She talks marketing. Social Media. New Ideas. How to make money. But she does it all in a way that’s super inspiring, super easy to relate to, super easy to understand - but also very specific. I took Marie Forleo’s B-School and honestly I feel like I’ve learned more through Erika HAHA. Not because Marie is not amazing (because she IS) - but purely because I relate to Erika’s style of teaching more. Her quirky personality and fierce feline demeanour is also pretty dope too. ;) She makes me feel like I CAN DO IT!

Erika will gets my business fires going. She teaches + shares most often through Periscope (you can catch up with her videos here), or on her private Facebook group. When you connect with her, you’ll hear from her pretty much everyday, which is really cool. She is always coming out with new content.

3. Nisha Moodley

Ohhh hey Nisha Moodley!!! What a goddess. OK, for those of you who don’t know her, Nisha is a coach for ambitious female entrepreneurs. She was a health coach previous to that. But the thing about Nisha, is she doesn’t really talk specific business much of the time. She’s deepened into her message. She’s actually very focused on our lifestyles, and how we approach our lives. She’s also a big proponent of sisterhood, and is actively involved in co-creating a global movement of young empowered women who love one another.

Nisha has developed into her woman, her fullness, her juiciness. It feels luxurious to walk the journey with her. :)

Nisha sends e-mails often, blog posts, poems, and more, which you can sign up for here. You can also creep her Instagram and see what I’m talking about for yourself. Swoon. ;) :D

4. Doreen Virtue

Ahhh. The angel goddess herself. The one who is in almost all of your houses, I’m sure! (Oracle cards anyone?)

Doreen is the go-to for angels (in my opinion anyway) and is such a beautiful soul. You can tell that even though she has millions of followers and has reached such a high level of “success” - she really just sees us all as her equals and knows that we all came here to do important work. She shows us how to do that important work even better.

I love seeing Doreen’s angel card readings pull up on my Instagram feed. I love her books that have taught me so much about angels. I love reading her cards and applying them to my business, my work, my purpose, and all areas of my life! I love HER! She reminds me to always come back to what it’s all about. True healing, and reminding others of how amazing they are.

Much love my sisters! If you have any women (or men for that matter) that you LOVE and find inspire you in both areas of business and spirituality, post them below!  I’d love to hear!

xo Beth

Women Who Inspire // Ashley Dawn of Thirsty Soul

I'm very fortunate to say I know a lot of inspiring women. Some of them I've forged relationships with online, yet many of them I've met in person, through experiencing the local arts + conscious communities in many different places.

I met Ashley, a holistic health coach and founder of Thirsty Soul, through my amazing community in Calgary - and at the time, she had just opened up a raw + organic juice bar with a  girlfriend in a downtown yoga studio. Despite my relocation to Vancouver Island, we have kept in touch, and I have enjoyed following her journey both online and off!

A few months ago, Ashley invited me to teach at her upcoming Revive & Thrive Retreat in Bali. After consulting with my inner guide (as I had been also asked to teach at a retreat in California around that time as well) - it was clear that this was the right move for me!

Read on to learn more about Ashley, gain some insight from her, and learn more about the retreat in Bali this January! You are invited to join us (it will be my first time there, woohoo!), and you can find out all about it here!

I know your career has taken a very holistic + unique approach - tell me a little bit about what you do!

Yes! In the last 6 years I definitely realized that being healthy is not just about eating a clean diet. To feel empowered in life - emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual elements need to be harmonious with one another. But, I do believe self - transformation begins with eating a joyful and conscious diet.

How did you get into it? Tell me about your story.

I use to eat a poor malnourished diet, and I suffered from migraines, being overweight, and not having any dreams or goals in my life. I realized that I was responsible for my health and wellbeing, and if I wanted things to change, then I needed to be the one to do it. So, I began educating myself on nutrition, studied, and began experimenting with different diets and ways of eating to learn what was best for me. Through my change in diet, I didn’t suffer from migraines any more. I had more energy, and I actually began to make goals and intentions for my life. By shifting what I consumed physically and mentally, it shifted the way I felt about myself, and I began living a beautiful life. I started to actually see and feel the beauty that life has to offer. Magic began to happen. I want people to experience the magic.

What would your advice be for a woman who is interested in becoming a nutritionist or healer, but doesn't know where to start?

If I could offer some guidance I would say: The best teachers and healers are the ones who have experienced what they are teaching. Personally, I can connect with healers and teachers wholeheartedly when they can empathize with you - So go back through your life story, and explore an event in your life that really shook you up, or created a significant shift in your life, and feel into it to see if there is any passion to share that story with others, to help others, and be of service.

What are your top 3 detoxifying foods?

The 3 most detoxifying foods that I am using right now: (these foods are always changing depending on what I am experiencing)

  • Grape Seed Extract
  • Baking Soda
  • Apple Cider Vinegar

What's something a woman can do right now, to add more energy to her life?

There are so many options. Right Take a deep INHALE , fill up your lungs as far as they can expand, and exhale through your nose.  Repeat 3 times - and as you breathe in say something you are grateful for

And finally! Tell us more about the retreat in Bali, which I am so excited to be a part of!

Beth Katherine // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the final post in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Today's post comes from... Me, Beth Katherine! I'm an intuitive coach for spiritual young women who desire to give their gifts to the world. I work with Spirit Guides + Angels in my sessions, as well as blog, create coaching videos, and deliver workshops to serve my really incredible audience.

When I started this blog tour, I had one thing in mind - there are so many resources out there for people who have already started their own businesses. This marketing expert, and that social media consultant - but what about the information for those who haven't started, at all?

Where is the inspiration and guidance for those of you who get freaked out by the business mumbo jumbo - and just want to start a healing career in an organic way?

So I created this blog tour, entitled, How She Started Her Healing Business, for just that reason. There are too many women out there with the most profound gifts, that aren't using them like they could be. You are all meant for big things, bold things, powerful things. But how can you unleash them into the world? Getting inspired by others who have already done it is a great first step!

I chose to write my own post, the last post in the Blog Tour, in an interview format style. Many of you have read different versions of the story of how I started (Check out this blog post, and this page, if you haven't) - So I thought it would be fun to answer specific questions about my journey.

I hope you enjoy this post, and more importantly, I hope that this Blog Tour has inspired you to realize that everyone's journey is different, everyone's gifts are different, and it's not about the destination - it's simply about the choice to follow the calling of your soul!

How did you get started in full-time entrepreneurship? Did you start with a job and then transition?

I started planning my business when I was in my last semester of University (studying for a Finance degree). At that point, it was a non-profit that I was planning, that focused on hosting events and getting different speakers to come talk about various spiritual topics, while also selling products like crystal necklaces, and the like. (I totally forget how the non-profit part of it came into play, sorry haha.) I submitted my plan to a Business Plan competition that my school ran, and I received feedback that my idea was not really feasible as there were already spiritual mentors like Wayne Dyer speaking on PBS, so why would people want to come out to events? Also, making a website was very expensive, where was I going to get the money?

It was at that point that I realized - 'Ok, I've got to leave this mainstream way of thinking! These people don't get me, or my project!' (Enter teenage angst - I am so mizaundastood!!!) - and I realized if I was really going to do this, I was just going to have to leave other people's voices of doubt behind, and jump in.

I created my own website virtually for free (more on that in a bit), changed my plan around to better suit my skills + desires, and upon graduating University, asked my Grandfather for a $5000 loan so I could focus on starting up my business without having to work another job, at least for the first few months.

I didn't really intend to be full-time right away, but that's just what happened.

Even though I applied for several jobs a few months after starting my business, I didn't get any of them (which was weird since I'd gotten every job I'd ever applied for minus 1 before that!) - but you know what, I think I was just subconsciously sending out the message - don't hire me! I don't actually want to take orders anymore! I want to be my own boss and do this healing thang!

So somehow I did it. I created crystal necklaces, and did a bit of meditation coaching - I usually made enough to just get by, and I had a fantastic time doing it. I didn't feel like I was missing out because I wasn't making as much as my friends, I was so satisfied and thrilled by my 'work', I just kept going and going!

What were the first products + services you offered? How did you decide on them?

Oh my goodness. This is a funny question. At the start, I honestly just threw out anything and everything. I had so many ideas, I didn't know how to filter them, or what to focus on. Some of them came to me in meditation, and some of them I just said - 'Oh this would be cool, maybe I'll try this!'

Here is the list of ever product or service that I offered when I started:

  • Crystal necklaces
  • Custom crystal necklaces
  • Meditation coaching
  • Business consulting
  • Meditation space creating (interior design for your sacred space)

And there are probably more that I now forget. I had no takers for the business consulting or the meditation space creating. I had 2 clients sign up for meditation coaching (1 of whom is still a regular client - how cool!) - yet I had lots of people want crystal necklaces, once I started selling them at markets, and putting pictures of my creations on Facebook. Interestingly enough, Krista, who is also featured in this series, was the first person ever to sign up for a custom crystal necklace - something that later became the backbone of my business.

How did you create your website?

Firstly - let me just say that I started using Photoshop and teaching myself HTML coding when I was around 14, because I was a really cool person and was a part of a Hilary Duff forum online, and had a lot of internet friends and loved to spend my time online with them! I taught myself photoshop and started creating 'signatures' for other people to use, using photos they gave me and making them into pretty looking things for the end of their posts and comments.

So I did have some computer coding experience, and a background in photoshop.

Then in University, I created my first blog called Samsara (check it out here), and taught myself more in terms of how to create nice looking webpages. So when I was ready to create my own website, I already had some confidence in the computer department.

I used an online software called Wix, which I would recommend, along with the platform I now use called Squarespace. I hired out the logo and header design to my friend Kai, and started taking some fun pictures in my basement with my friend Katie. Once I had the pictures and the logo, I plugged it all into Wix. (I've included a picture of one of the first drafts of my website below) Wix allows you to create a website from scratch or from a template, and honestly, you don't really need much computer experience at all to get the hang of it. It's very intuitive. It's just my background with computer work helped me to be more confident and play more.

After that, you just need to pay for it to be hosted (about $10-$20 a month) - and you're off!

Did you ever plan an event or host a workshop that was a total flop?

Yes and no. I've hosted events that had attendance rates much lower than I expected - yes - but I have a fairly strong commitment to just serving people, so in my opinion, a flop would be an event where I was not in the mindset of service.

What is your North Star? Meaning - when life gets crazy and disorganized - what keeps you focused?

Ohh so many things - they mostly all revolve around feeling the deep pain that the much of the world and the animals I love so dearly are in - and then finding the motivation and knowingness that I can be a part of changing it.

Everything that I've done started out when I became intensely interested in environmentalism, while still in University.

Through my research, I discovered so many things going on in this world, to the animals, and the plant kingdom that drove a spear through my heart. (ie. factory farming, animal testing, deforestation, ocean dead zones, etc)

Shortly after this time, I realized that the solution to theses issues was not to be found in addressing all of these problems individually - rather the root of the issue lies in human consciousness. And so, I got to work in addressing how we can all be more loving, more intuitive, and more aligned with our truths. Young women were specifically the people I gravitated to spreading this message to, as I felt I could relate the most to them.

I do what I do, to create a more beautiful, more natural, more loving earth for all beings, now, and in the future. I envision lots of self-sufficient intentional communities, places with cob homes and treehouses in nature, where best friends live side by side, grow food together, raise children together, and have a deep connection with Mama Gaia.

That is my motivation in the grand sense. And myself, along with thousands, maybe even millions of other lightworkers, are helping to usher that, or a similar change in!

Is there any advice you would give to a young woman whose in the beginning stages of starting her healing business?

Yes, lots! And I have a free video training series coming out in a few weeks with a step-by-step process on how to start. The first step in the series, as well as the step I'd like to mention now - is get in touch with the why.

What is your greater motivation?

I know that you, like me, have probably woken up to the change you'd like to see on this planet. So now that you've got your eyes open - what would you like to create, both for yourself, and for the world?

Have a clear understanding of why you're starting, and why it's important. Get really deep with it (as you read above, mine has stemmed from my love of the environment) - and let that guide you.

The entrepreneurial process is intense. It's awesome - like really awesome - but it comes with it's challenges and it's roadblocks. If you have a deep, intrinsic motivation, you'll be able to bust through them just fine.

If you're interested in experiencing this free video training series (4 short videos, that give you instructions, 1 practical step at a time, on how you can go from nothing at all - to a webpage with products and services offered) - please sign up with your name and email below! I'll send them to you within the next few weeks!

Melissa DeLynn // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the sixth in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Today's post comes to us from Melissa DeLynn, a yoga teacher, intuitive healer, and sensual mama whose full of committed connection to All That Is.

Why I love Melissa:

Melissa is a special soul, there is no doubt about it. As she mentions in the article, I met Melissa in Cape Town, South Africa, where we were both working internships, and being exposed to extreme poverty. While not working, I was drinking, partying, hanging on the beach - you know, the usual when you're 19. So were most of the young people I met there. But Melissa was different. She was wandering around the city solo, learning photography, conversing with locals, going to yoga - she had this mysterious edge to her, she made you think. Years later, we are still very much in touch (and I'm so glad) - and I've had the pleasure of watching Melissa blossom into a full on sensual, powerful yogini who I'm quite sure makes anyone do a double take. She's that beautiful, and that powerful.

Why I love this article:

Well first off, I was really intrigued to find out that Cape Town was also the place that sparked Melissa's awakening. I love this piece because it's raw. It goes into how we can access our greatest healing powers through our shadow. It's grounded, truthful, and shows you how interrelated starting your healing business is to... everything. It's not just an aspect of your life, your work flows from the very core of your being. It's a part of the greater tapestry of you. Read on to learn more!

The evolution of my healing business has been exciting, devastating, hilarious, heart opening, life shattering and awakening.

I recently began my 500hr Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. One of the faculty members and fellow yoginis shared this with me over tea - “Healers have the most to heal and teachers have the most to learn.” A soul quake occurred as this simple and complex phrase rippled through me. I finally understood how I found myself where I am today.

I was hurt, traumatized, depressed, anxious, broken and lost. And I was cracked open to the healing powers of the Universe, of Love, of Light. When you lose things, when you let them go, you make space for other things. Whether things are yanked from you or you willingly give them up, there is then a space that you can fill. “Things” here could mean anything- literal physical things that are weighing you down, relationships that don’t serve us, negative thought patterns or behaviors, even the ways we don't treat ourselves well. But as those things leave, the spaciousness and openness that exists in your wide open heart then allows you to make the choice to elevate and serve others.

The story of my awakening happened in 2009. My grandfather, my “Pop,” passed away and the series of life altering events began to domino into every corner of my life. The devastations that occurred led me to leaving the country to get as far away as possible from everything and everyone that I knew.

In 2010 I was living in Cape Town, South Africa - also where I met the beautiful Beth! I honestly feel as if I was asleep at the wheel until this time, I was barely existing. My experiences of awakening truly began here. I was living in the beautiful metropolis of Cape Town and working about 30 minutes outside of the city in Khayelitsha or “new home” in Xhosa - a township city only 14 sq. miles and home to more than 400,000 people. Home to some of the worst poverty, violence and pervasive HIV rates in the world. “WAKE UP!”, the world screamed at me.

She shook me awake.

Look at the devastation. I felt like my inner suffering was being spewed out and reflected back at me. I got out of my experience and felt the true hurt and experiences of others. I have never seen anything as beautiful as that hurt. I was truly woken up.

I began practicing yoga with a few other Westerners I knew once a week in Cape Town. Yoga was my first Tool of Transformation. I continued to practice and when I came back to the states to finish college, one of my dear friends had recently started a yoga teacher training. And so Yoga stayed. And my friend taught me yoga. And then when I was lost and without purpose about what to make of my experience I realized it. Yoga had saved my life and served me in ways that no lyrics could describe. I had to share this gift. I had to help the suffering in the world somehow. I had to help people get free. I had to drag people to the light. I had to help people wake up. I had to hold space for others.

Four years later after my teacher training, I am a full time yoga instructor and intuitive healer.

I teach many classes a week and work as the Yoga Teacher Training coordinator at my home base yoga studio, Savannah Yoga Center. I now host retreats, give private lessons and host workshops. In the works for this coming year- a podcast with my two best friends and healing women, hosting Tarot reading workshops at a local record label- Graveface records, and hosting several retreats this coming year.

As I have developed my professional life as a healer and as an agent for change, my biggest lesson can be described in one word- Diversify. This world is full of opportunities- things to be tasted and experienced. We cannot limit ourselves any longer. We do not fit in boxes, we are not designed to be uniform. Where there is space, there is opportunity for it to be filled with brilliance.

As a Yogi first and foremost, my hope is to infuse every aspect of my life with Spirit. To me, everything can be a spiritual act. Sometimes we lose perspective but when we are living in Service to others, we have to seek balance and intention in all things that we do.  Starting your healing business means acknowledging your own personal power. Knowing and believing in your own strength and abilities is what will draw abundance to you in enumerable ways. Starting your own healing business means that your Dharma(purpose) is to serve others and the world around you.

A few tips to keep you on track:

  • Take care of Yourself. Go to Yoga, take a bath, eat healthy food, drink enough water, sleep, learn something new, spend time in nature, be with people that you love, buy yourself something beautiful because you deserve it. You can’t take care of others if you are not taking care of yourself. You have to be awake and clear to be able to heal others.

  • Know Yourself. You will meet yourself when you begin to spend time with yourself. Not with your phone or the TV. Spend time ALONE. Listen to your body. Your desires. Your intuition. Be still and listen to your inner stirrings.

  • Write. Journal. Blog. A to-do list. Anything. Get your ideas out. This is the first step in manifestation!

  • TRAVEL. Traveling floods you with inspiration, new experiences and new people. Traveling provides you with the space to find yourself and reignite your fire. We have to step away from the labels, roles, schedule and normalcy of our lives and get perspective sometimes.

  • Find Your Tribe! Surround yourself with Light. People who make you feel amazing. People who are seeking the same things as you. People with high standards and good character. People who are silly and make you laugh. People who inspire you! Your tribe/Kula/sangha/community is the glue that holds you together. They help you when you are lost, lonely, broken or just having a terrible day.

  • BREATHE. When we are devastated and confused, we have one thing that can keep us going- breath. When you are overcome with beauty, love or, pleasure- drink in each beautiful unique breath. Feel its uniqueness. Feel it fill you up. Fill yourself with breath and light and positivity and let the things that don't serve you go. Empty out the darkness, the hurt, the stories, the past, the swirling thoughts. Let it go. Keep breathing.

  • Find your teacher/Guru. This can be a life-long search. Search with an open heart and mind. Everything and anyone can be your teacher- traffic, a friend, a stranger, a memory. But a true Guru, teacher or mentor is an important component to your vision.

  • Practice. And most importantly, practice what you preach.

  • Lean into it. When you finally turn your life over to the Universe, when you realize you are part of a huge plan- a beautiful and intellectual plan, you realize that there is only a certain amount of control you have. You can control how you react to life but not what happens. No matter what comes up- beauty or bullshit- lean in. And breathe!

  • Get paid to be who You are. You are special. You have gifts and passions. You are a worthy recipient of abundance. Be open to receiving.

Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu

May All Beings Everywhere Be Happy and Free and May Our Lives Contribute to that Happiness and to that Freedom.

I am so grateful to be a part of this experience!

Namaste

Madeline of Natural Hormone Healing // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the fifth in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Today's post comes to us from Madeline, the founder of Natural Hormone Healing! Madeline is a modern day medicine woman, who takes a unique + refreshing approach to helping women find true health.

Why I love Madeline:

Madeline has introduced me to a world of healing that I previously didn't know about. While many of us know about the benefits of green juice, yoga, and the like - she comes in with a distinctly different piece. She honours the traditions of our ancestors, and our undeniable connection to the earth and our wilderness, in a way that's still approachable and doable in our fast paced world. She is, in short, quite brilliant, and when speaking with her, you will be sure to become radically inspired by her vast amount of wisdom! She's a very lovely human being in so many ways. :)

Why I love this article:

Though Madeline is a storehouse of knowledge, she, like so many of us, wasn't exactly equipped with a business GPS at birth. She shares her journey, honestly. The parts that flowed for her, and came naturally, as well as the parts that she struggles with and is still working on today. I love the authenticity of this piece, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I’ve had a passion for health and healing since I was 18.

During my first year of college, I spent a lot of my time watching David Wolfe’s you tube videos on super foods when I should have been studying for my political science degree. It became clear to me where my passions really lay and I dropped out of university to enrol in nutrition school the next year.

I began working in different health food stores, and after my certification, I started working at The Light Cellar, (an amazing boutique style super food shop in Calgary) where I was able to really immerse myself in my passion for medicinal and nutritional herbs, super food nutrition, and the healing arts. It was a really exciting time being surrounded by a hub of people with similar passions. It felt like I found my tribe.

I started to get the confidence to start my own business from teaching classes at The Light Cellar's teaching kitchen.

When I first started I was afraid, but my desire to teach classes felt like a magnetic draw.

I started teaching classes on super foods, women's health and culinary arts. I stumbled through my classes at first but I started getting really positive feedback from participants and my confidence grew.

It was such a blessing to have a stage, to share my gifts and my creativity with a receptive audience. It felt so natural... like I was in my 'genius zone'.  It was one of those progressions that happened naturally without feeling like I had to force anything.

The next step for me was to start seeing private clients which eventually lead to founding naturalhormonehealing.com.

I help women balance their hormones naturally through a combination of food as medicine-based nutrition, herbalism, traditional foods, using the spa as a healing system, stress management rituals and transformational coaching.

I focus on lifestyle approach with my clients. We work together to create an internal and external environment where healing happens naturally.

I started off seeing clients for one-on-one for single sessions but in the last year I’ve transitioned to a coaching based business model where I offer coaching programs. This has been much more sustainable approach for my business and is in more alignment with my lifestyle and the quality of care I give to my clients.

I’ve definitely had many road blocks and challenges along the way... as well as the occasional breakdown.

I’ve even considered quitting a few times, which usually happens right before I have a huge breakthrough.

I’ve also faced a lot of challenges with procrastination. It can be so easy to get distracted in the online world of inspiring information and get information overload. I’ve had to learn to listen to my own intuition about my business instead of following strategies of online marketing gurus.

I’ve found it valuable to set up a time management system with goals for the tasks that need to be done so when I’m on, I’m on...and when I’m off I’m off since it can be so easy for a business to take over all of your free time.

Starting your own business is one of the greatest self (and spiritual) developmental journeys you can go on. The curtain is ripped out in front of you and you are directly faced with your relationship with money, your self worth and your connection to your deep sense of purpose in life.

It's the only way if you to go if you want to continue moving forward. There is no hiding from yourself on the entrepreneurial path!

I love how you get the privilege of developing something that is truly your own and you get to serve the world in your own unique way.

It's a challenge but it's oh so worth it!

If you feel inspired to start your own healing business, I recommend It.

How ever big or small your want to start,  just jump in!  Let your inspiration lead you!

Allison Braun, The Business Joylogist // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the fourth in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Today’s post comes to us from Allison Braun - The Business Joyologist. Allison helps women find clarity in their business, so they can bring all their gifts together in a sustainable, joyful way!

Why I love Allison:

Allison is refreshing. She marches to the beat of her own drum, and she seems at home  in so many settings - somewhat corporate environments, all night dance parties, talking about sex + pleasure (in her first business, she was known as The Bedroom Joyologist!), meditative settings, and more. There is a nurturing quality to her, a spunky mama bear like energy, and you get the feeling she truly does care for all her clients, and all those she engages with on a day-to-day basis.

Why I love this article:

Firstly, it’s an interview post, rather than a story, which I love. With this format, we really can get right to it. Allison shares openly and honestly many of the practical steps that it took to get her business running. Out of all the posts in the series, it’s probably the one you can study the most, to get a tangible example of how you can get started as well.

I know that, although you're a business coach now, you started out as a sexuality coach! How did you know you wanted to get into that line of work?

It didn't hit me until others started reflecting/telling me.  I had been trying hard to figure out my "niche," what I'd be best at and it wasn't until I stopped trying to figure it out and just started being myself that a mastermind group of women that I was in & my coach started calling me the "fully self-expressed bedroom joyologist."  As soon as that sunk it, it felt like I huge "ah ha! How did I not see this!?" moment.  Relief and excitement sunk it and off I went.  I had previously been making $9/hr at a education focused sex shop for women and couples so the idea of doing my own thing in this area & actually making money felt like a dream come true.

Were you scared by the opinions of others, as what you were choosing to do was so different, and potentially taboo?

Honestly, not that much.  By the time it all sunk it I felt so much relief, excitement and certainty that it was what I was meant to do that I stopped worrying about what others might think.  Anyone that I thought might not be enthusiastic about it, I just didn't really talk about it with.

How did you transition from a job to full time entrepreneurship? Did you save up, and do it slowly, or did you just make a quick jump?

I transitioned over a period of a little less than a year I think.  I started off working full time and building my business during any free moment I had (including at work sometimes), about 6 months in when I started getting a few clients I transitioned to part time at my job until I was consistently making the same amount in my business as I was at my job.  Once I had secured income for the next 6 months I gave my notice at my job and offered to stay on as "on call" because I actually liked being around the people there and had lots of free time (considering I made the same amount in my business working about 20 hours a month instead of 40 hours a week).

Tell me what getting your first client was like. How did she find you? What were the feelings that came up for you then?

It was super exciting and felt like my business was finally "real" - all of this online marketing stuff I had learned about was really paying off! She found me through my blog while doing a search I believe, and followed through with applying to work with me.  One of the coolest things for me in that first year was seeing people apply from around the world that I did not know.

What were the main fears that came up for you, during that transitionary period for you? How did you work through them?

The main fears I had were that I wouldn't do a good enough job (for my clients) and that at some point I might not have a steady stream of clients.  I consistently set myself up for success as best I could to limit those fears, which meant making sure I took on clients that I really enjoyed working with and genuinely felt like I could support.  I did my best to trust that it was my job to show up and support in the ways I knew how and my clients job to take responsibility for asking for what they needed and doing their part.  In regards to fearing that I might not have clients at some point - I just reminded myself that a) I am a resourceful person and worst case scenario I could always find ways to make money and b) I had been able to do it (get clients) thus far, and I should only get better at it over time!

What's the biggest piece of advice you'd give a woman who wants to become an entrepreneur, but is still in a 9-5 (or similar) position?

Imperfect action is the greatest thing you can do.  Keep moving, even if you're unclear or don't feel totally confident - it's the action that will bring clarity and confidence.  And, make sure the action you're taking is a joyful as possible.  Following that joy will ensure that you build a business that's expansive and supportive instead of something that feels like another job.

What's the best part of being a holistic entrepreneur?

For me it's feeling like I get to bring all of me to the table.  Natural health, energy work, coaching, marketing, inner work, practical action steps, sharing stories, sexual energy, pleasure and more - none of me and my gifts need to be left out just because it's "business" or because I'm a "business" coach.  Bringing it all together baby!

Krista of Chalice Grove // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the third in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Krista is the founder of Chalice Grove, a mala creation & coaching company. She is a writer, teacher, and creatress, who ripples with a cellular desire to bring deep healing into the world.

Why I love Krista:

Well apart from the fact that she is one of my best friends (so of course I think she's great!) - she is a fiery inspiration for anyone who meets her to go deeper. Conversations with Krista are never mundane. She's a deep diver, and while hanging out with her, you might find yourself soul gazing (staring into eachother's eyes for minutes at a time with no speaking and no looking away) , talking about the nature of forgiveness, or learning about her recent intricate revelations about life and love. She walks her talk and is constantly pushing herself to be more authentic and an even bigger container for Universal healing.

Why I love this article:

Reading this article, you'll learn that Krista's understanding of success was shifted when she met some local entrepreneurs. This, too, was how this path of creating my own healing business came to me. You'll read that being sparked by other people, and learning of new belief systems + ideas, were the catalysts for her growth - and now she is doing that very same sparking for others. Very cool. Also I learned a new word while reading this. It is 'edify'. Fantastic! Read on lovers! :D

I am Krista, a Womanpreneur born and raised in British Columbia, Canada.

I spent the first six years of my twenties doing what everyone told me to do, getting a good education that would eventually lead to a successful career.  Well I got the good education, in fact I got two majors because I loved academia so much. Because I excelled in post-secondary, I really did think that school was the answer and a job was the goal.  There was no doubt in my mind that I would become successful.

The year I graduated I met a couple of local entrepreneurs in the Calgary area who capsized everything I knew about success.

With their mentorship, my goals began to shift as I began to see the bigger picture. Entrepreneurship is a privilege and because Canada and the USA were built on a free enterprise system people can get into business for themselves.  Many other countries do not have this right, and the more I learned about it, the more I felt responsible to step into this role as a way to honour this right and our freedom of choice.

I have always deeply loved people, but along the way I forgot to deeply love myself and so there were times when my actions hurt people, out of a deep inner pain that I was unwilling to acknowledge.  The more I began to dive into the unsettled waters of my actions and the storm of my emotional landscape, the more I began to learn about my role as a co-creator of my experiences.  And so I got to work.  I began reading Louise Hay, Rumi, Anne Harrington, James Redfield, and Elizabeth Gilbert.

This provided the framework in which I would rebuild my life - a life where I was speaking kindly to myself and others, fostering self-care and love, and nurturing myself out of the darkness and into the light.

We all want to become the best versions of ourselves, and all that is required of us is a willingness to change and a continuity of authentic presence.

Through this practice I began to see my entire life transform, it didn't happen instantaneously but it did happen.

People started showing up in my life with the same beliefs, values, energy and spiritual practice.  As if by magic, our numbers increased and we grew into a soul family.

Many people in this soul tribe were already in business for themselves, and this risk taking, freedom fighting, trail blazing energy was what I needed to be inspired further.

I was already creating but at this point it wasn't for resale, it was for my own personal blossoming.

It was my friend Beth who took the time to edify my creative spirit and support my role as an entrepreneur out there in the world.  At first, like most people, I recall being hesitant - that I had my head in the clouds and that it couldn't work - however, a deep knowing said, say YES!

During this time I went through heartbreak that has forever changed me, but instead of letting that derail my desires, I began to embrace the sorrow in a way that allowed for my deepest spiritual healing to occur.  With a website and a completed application to get my work out there, Chalice Grove was birthed and a platform for true transformation created.  Both the break-up and the business forced me into vulnerability and from this divine feminine energy a myriad of magical insights took flight - and I listened.  I began to design and create malas {sacred prayer jewelry} with the support of the Universe at my side, whispering into my dreams and guiding me to people, places, and things.  Currently, I am stepping into the role of a spiritual empowerment coach, helping people identify their deepest wounds, learn to love themselves holistically, and take responsibility as a co-creator of their experiences.

My message is simple: forgiveness, love and inner peace.

We need to forgive if we are to embody love.  If we embody love, we will have inner peace.  We only live in this reality for such a short period of time and it is with this gift that I commit to being the best version of myself.  I know my journey, as confusing and hard as it is at times, has been given to me so that I may use my experiences to transform my consciousness, continuously evolve and hopefully inspire others along the way.  Don't be afraid to start, "everything you want is on the other side of fear."

About the Author:

Krista Reierson is an artist of the soul; her life's work is to guide people to their inner guru and unlock their potential.

Everything she creates is aligned with the frequency of forgiveness, love, and inner peace.  She is a super-food loving, organic supporting, person growth diving + creativity blossoming alchemist who believes life is about ceremony and service.  She loves deep and meaningful conversations that unravel the ego and expose our greatest strength - our vulnerability.  Her respect for the healing magic of crystals guided her dreams to a place that glittered with gems and far away lands.  She became a mala designer because she knows they act as a key to the door of ones divinity. You can find Krista in the forest, wild-crafting through Alberta's forestial landscapes, connecting to her truth, her creativity, her roots, and the divinity found in us all.

Asia of One Willow Apothecaries // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the second in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Asia is the founder of One Willow Apothecaries. She’s an herbalist, teacher & writer, who lives amongst the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC.

Why I love Asia:

Asia is the only woman apart of this blog tour whom I hadn’t known previously. Though I had been following her on Instagram and Facebook for quite some time before I reached out. I adore that she is grounded and focused on, to me, what really matters, the healing powers of Mother Earth, and the simple things in life. She lives in this true place, and creates the most beautiful medicines from her strong connection to the earth. Tuning into Asia is quite different that tuning into your average entrepreneur. She lives first and foremost in the ‘real world’ (that of dirt, a cup of tea, and a slower pace of being), and that, is why I love her!

Why I love this article:

Well, first off, it's poetry. Asia is a beautiful writer. Second of all, we get such a window into Asia's initial fears + excitement. You can really feel the energy of how and when she started. The trepidation, the elation, the overarching curiosity for what was to come, and the many references to simply following her soul's whispers. This article really gives a peek into what the beginning stages of what the creation process is like. (Ps. Be sure to check out Asia's website, it's beautiful.)

The call to start One Willow began quietly.

Explorer.jpg

Like a gentle breeze on bare skin; soul inklings often start out this way. I was in the final months of my herbal training at The Chestnut School when the idea suddenly made itself known. Like the half formed words that escape from us in sleep, the nudgings of our spirit often arrive in unexpected whispers, pieces that hint to a much larger conversation already underway in our dreams.

In the beginning, I was reluctant—as most people are when ambitious endeavors are first glimpsed.  I had fully intended on developing a clinical practice at the completion of my studies. The idea to create a product business was far off my well-paved map. Like the most skilled conversationalist, however, our wider souls know exactly when to introduce new directions. One Willow sprung as suddenly as a pea shoot from long fallow soil. Green, young, alive, it would not be ignored.  I didn’t quite know how to begin, but I felt that I was being allowed a moment of translucence, a little window into the greater conversation of my soul. I wasn’t sure exactly where it would lead (for it was certainly leading somewhere) but the urge itself was a kind of guidance. A single thread revealed from some unseen spool.  I had no idea exactly where it came from, or where it would go, but I felt, deep in my bones, that a larger piece of my destiny was in the process of being woven.

To follow the thread meant two things: to accept that it was possible, and to allow myself to try. All journeys, especially the ones that are big and beautiful, require some sort of initiation. For me, that initiation took the form of confronting self-doubt. There were a thousand reasons why beginning a business seemed illogical. I had little capital. Actually, no capital at all! I have never run a business before, never created medicine for anyone beyond family or friends, never put myself out there so publically. Big decisions, opportunities, and life changes are so large simply because they ask much of us. Simply put, they ask for us to open up to our own grandness.  Often, I will know a new direction is important specifically because it requires me to confront any feelings of smallness.

Rainer Maria Rilke wrote “our fears are like dragons guarding our most precious treasures.

Starting your own business means more than applying for a license or figuring our your PR strategy. It is an act of sheer bravery, for it is often an invitation to confront our deepest fears and most limiting self-beliefs. For me, it came down to the nagging fear of being enough. Knowledgeable enough, old enough, experienced enough. More than creating a livelihood for myself through doing what I loved, the initiation of beginning One Willow was a sacred moment of reconciling with the dragons in my life.

It took me a year from first opening my heart to the idea to being able to introduce my medicine to the world.  Developing One Willow was like inhabiting a living workshop. Every day I confronted worries and fears, and every day I cast off more of these limitations so that I could expand, experience, exalt and GROW. It was a journey.

I remember the moment I first announced my business on Facebook. It was the beginning of the holiday season and I was so nervous my hands were shaking.

Once the announcement went live I immediately high-tailed it to the woods to sit underneath the bare winter silhouettes and breathe. I felt like I had crossed a threshold. It was both thrilling and terrifying, and wholly mysterious. By the time I got back home hundreds of people had visited my website and I had the distinct feeling that a very grand adventure had just begun.

Over the past several years One Willow has opened some incredible doors and initiated some deep lessons in my life. More than just an enterprise, One Willow is an actual entity with which I have a relationship. It is an aspect of myself that manifests with specific desires and inclinations, passions and needs. It has helped encourage me down new paths of exploration and fascination. New incarnations and understandings of my work in this world. Named for the willow tree that was planted for me when I was born, One Willow is a constant reminder of where I come from, how it feels to follow the seasons of my desires, and who I am asking myself to become.

Our passions are the guidestones of our lives.

What makes you tingle with anticipation? What feels like home? What lights the clouds or opens up a space of truly celestial peace in your sky? Starting and maintaining a vibrant business necessitates that you follow the path of your passion—no matter what. Over the years, I’ve fallen into the many traps of thinking in “shoulds.” Cultural standards, outside expectations, comparison. Mark Twain wrote once that “comparison is the death of joy” and I agree with him. I’ve lost precious hours comparing myself to others or even to the models of what I expected my work to look like. The truth is that each and every one of us has a deeply unique gift and that gift is completely incomparable.

This world craves your work.

By becoming more of who we truly are, we are able to more fully give the gifts of our selves to this earth.

We will never stop confronting dragons in our life. But every time you do, true magic occurs. Like carefully stacked cairns along a trail, you will always be blessed with guidance and affirmation. Little, pebbled reminders that, yes, you are on the right path and it is leading you somewhere truly beautiful. Following the whispered words of my soul has led to much abundance in my life but, even more so, it has opened up entirely new avenues for self-expansion and enchantment. It has brought that conversation, the one that lives and continues to be explored at the heart of my dreaming self, to every corner of my waking life.
