Why Self-Acceptance Isn't What You Think // Video

Hey loves!

Happy New Moon! Today we're talking self-acceptance - and I'm busting a myth about self-acceptance that you might be experiencing.

Here's an example:

When you're looking at yourself in the mirror, and don't like what you see - would the voice of self-acceptance say: "I accept myself and I look great"?

No, surprisingly, in my experience and in my work with clients, self-acceptance is something different. Watch the video below to learn more about what I mean!

Lots of love!

Faerie Style // Pinspiration

I'll admit - when I envision my 'perfect life' as we're often so called to do in the manifestation process - I always include a faerie wardrobe. There is the beautiful treehouse in nature, living on land with community, yes. There is the beautiful man I co-create my life with, yes yes. There is the fulfilling career that involves speaking to great audiences and travelling the world, yes yes yes.

And then there is, of course, the faerie wardrobe.

What is the faerie wardrobe you ask? It's the closet of beautiful, handcrafted clothes I wear that evoke a different time, a different dimension. They help me feel more like myself, and a little less like who society wants me to be. They make me feel beautiful, spark the imagination of myself and all those who see them. And they are celebrations of creativity - wearable art that honours the genius of our humanity.

I must say, I am well on my way with this faerie garb expedition, but oooooh would I love to find more unique pieces, like the ones I'm including below. These are all images I've found on pinterest that have captured my imagination and oodled me into inspiration!

Ps. If you're loving the vibe of this faerie fare, but some thoughts pop in like - 'Well isn't that superficial, to care about clothing?' - You may love my blog post: Is It Wanting To Feel Beautiful Your Ego?

Women Who Inspire // Ashley Dawn of Thirsty Soul

I'm very fortunate to say I know a lot of inspiring women. Some of them I've forged relationships with online, yet many of them I've met in person, through experiencing the local arts + conscious communities in many different places.

I met Ashley, a holistic health coach and founder of Thirsty Soul, through my amazing community in Calgary - and at the time, she had just opened up a raw + organic juice bar with a  girlfriend in a downtown yoga studio. Despite my relocation to Vancouver Island, we have kept in touch, and I have enjoyed following her journey both online and off!

A few months ago, Ashley invited me to teach at her upcoming Revive & Thrive Retreat in Bali. After consulting with my inner guide (as I had been also asked to teach at a retreat in California around that time as well) - it was clear that this was the right move for me!

Read on to learn more about Ashley, gain some insight from her, and learn more about the retreat in Bali this January! You are invited to join us (it will be my first time there, woohoo!), and you can find out all about it here!

I know your career has taken a very holistic + unique approach - tell me a little bit about what you do!

Yes! In the last 6 years I definitely realized that being healthy is not just about eating a clean diet. To feel empowered in life - emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual elements need to be harmonious with one another. But, I do believe self - transformation begins with eating a joyful and conscious diet.

How did you get into it? Tell me about your story.

I use to eat a poor malnourished diet, and I suffered from migraines, being overweight, and not having any dreams or goals in my life. I realized that I was responsible for my health and wellbeing, and if I wanted things to change, then I needed to be the one to do it. So, I began educating myself on nutrition, studied, and began experimenting with different diets and ways of eating to learn what was best for me. Through my change in diet, I didn’t suffer from migraines any more. I had more energy, and I actually began to make goals and intentions for my life. By shifting what I consumed physically and mentally, it shifted the way I felt about myself, and I began living a beautiful life. I started to actually see and feel the beauty that life has to offer. Magic began to happen. I want people to experience the magic.

What would your advice be for a woman who is interested in becoming a nutritionist or healer, but doesn't know where to start?

If I could offer some guidance I would say: The best teachers and healers are the ones who have experienced what they are teaching. Personally, I can connect with healers and teachers wholeheartedly when they can empathize with you - So go back through your life story, and explore an event in your life that really shook you up, or created a significant shift in your life, and feel into it to see if there is any passion to share that story with others, to help others, and be of service.

What are your top 3 detoxifying foods?

The 3 most detoxifying foods that I am using right now: (these foods are always changing depending on what I am experiencing)

  • Grape Seed Extract
  • Baking Soda
  • Apple Cider Vinegar

What's something a woman can do right now, to add more energy to her life?

There are so many options. Right Take a deep INHALE , fill up your lungs as far as they can expand, and exhale through your nose.  Repeat 3 times - and as you breathe in say something you are grateful for

And finally! Tell us more about the retreat in Bali, which I am so excited to be a part of!

Why Positivity Needs to Take a Chill Pill // Video

Often we're encouraged to always choose positivity on our spiritual paths - and mistakenly believe that the only way to be happy is to resist the negative, and choose the positive.

But when we introduce a more earth-based approach, we start to understand that the dualistic nature of our feelings is perfect, and one can find incredible wisdom and insight from just surrendering to the darkness.

As we ground into this Scorpio season, I ask you - would it feel more aligned to choose wholeness, rather than happiness, as your goal?

3 Steps for Making Your Big Dreams a Reality // Video

Hi lovebugs!

I have a question for you... How often do you let yourself dream big? I mean, really BIG!

If you're like most people, your daydreams consist of things your mind can work it's way around - 'realistic' goals, so to speak.

Yet that's why most people stay small - they keep themselves there!

But I know you're not like most people. (Seriously, you ladies I work with are incredible) I know you're meant for big things, and in this new video, I'll show you how to get to those big things in a 3 step process!

I also share a big dream of mine that's coming into fruition!

Watch below to find out what that dream is!

Beth Katherine // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the final post in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Today's post comes from... Me, Beth Katherine! I'm an intuitive coach for spiritual young women who desire to give their gifts to the world. I work with Spirit Guides + Angels in my sessions, as well as blog, create coaching videos, and deliver workshops to serve my really incredible audience.

When I started this blog tour, I had one thing in mind - there are so many resources out there for people who have already started their own businesses. This marketing expert, and that social media consultant - but what about the information for those who haven't started, at all?

Where is the inspiration and guidance for those of you who get freaked out by the business mumbo jumbo - and just want to start a healing career in an organic way?

So I created this blog tour, entitled, How She Started Her Healing Business, for just that reason. There are too many women out there with the most profound gifts, that aren't using them like they could be. You are all meant for big things, bold things, powerful things. But how can you unleash them into the world? Getting inspired by others who have already done it is a great first step!

I chose to write my own post, the last post in the Blog Tour, in an interview format style. Many of you have read different versions of the story of how I started (Check out this blog post, and this page, if you haven't) - So I thought it would be fun to answer specific questions about my journey.

I hope you enjoy this post, and more importantly, I hope that this Blog Tour has inspired you to realize that everyone's journey is different, everyone's gifts are different, and it's not about the destination - it's simply about the choice to follow the calling of your soul!

How did you get started in full-time entrepreneurship? Did you start with a job and then transition?

I started planning my business when I was in my last semester of University (studying for a Finance degree). At that point, it was a non-profit that I was planning, that focused on hosting events and getting different speakers to come talk about various spiritual topics, while also selling products like crystal necklaces, and the like. (I totally forget how the non-profit part of it came into play, sorry haha.) I submitted my plan to a Business Plan competition that my school ran, and I received feedback that my idea was not really feasible as there were already spiritual mentors like Wayne Dyer speaking on PBS, so why would people want to come out to events? Also, making a website was very expensive, where was I going to get the money?

It was at that point that I realized - 'Ok, I've got to leave this mainstream way of thinking! These people don't get me, or my project!' (Enter teenage angst - I am so mizaundastood!!!) - and I realized if I was really going to do this, I was just going to have to leave other people's voices of doubt behind, and jump in.

I created my own website virtually for free (more on that in a bit), changed my plan around to better suit my skills + desires, and upon graduating University, asked my Grandfather for a $5000 loan so I could focus on starting up my business without having to work another job, at least for the first few months.

I didn't really intend to be full-time right away, but that's just what happened.

Even though I applied for several jobs a few months after starting my business, I didn't get any of them (which was weird since I'd gotten every job I'd ever applied for minus 1 before that!) - but you know what, I think I was just subconsciously sending out the message - don't hire me! I don't actually want to take orders anymore! I want to be my own boss and do this healing thang!

So somehow I did it. I created crystal necklaces, and did a bit of meditation coaching - I usually made enough to just get by, and I had a fantastic time doing it. I didn't feel like I was missing out because I wasn't making as much as my friends, I was so satisfied and thrilled by my 'work', I just kept going and going!

What were the first products + services you offered? How did you decide on them?

Oh my goodness. This is a funny question. At the start, I honestly just threw out anything and everything. I had so many ideas, I didn't know how to filter them, or what to focus on. Some of them came to me in meditation, and some of them I just said - 'Oh this would be cool, maybe I'll try this!'

Here is the list of ever product or service that I offered when I started:

  • Crystal necklaces
  • Custom crystal necklaces
  • Meditation coaching
  • Business consulting
  • Meditation space creating (interior design for your sacred space)

And there are probably more that I now forget. I had no takers for the business consulting or the meditation space creating. I had 2 clients sign up for meditation coaching (1 of whom is still a regular client - how cool!) - yet I had lots of people want crystal necklaces, once I started selling them at markets, and putting pictures of my creations on Facebook. Interestingly enough, Krista, who is also featured in this series, was the first person ever to sign up for a custom crystal necklace - something that later became the backbone of my business.

How did you create your website?

Firstly - let me just say that I started using Photoshop and teaching myself HTML coding when I was around 14, because I was a really cool person and was a part of a Hilary Duff forum online, and had a lot of internet friends and loved to spend my time online with them! I taught myself photoshop and started creating 'signatures' for other people to use, using photos they gave me and making them into pretty looking things for the end of their posts and comments.

So I did have some computer coding experience, and a background in photoshop.

Then in University, I created my first blog called Samsara (check it out here), and taught myself more in terms of how to create nice looking webpages. So when I was ready to create my own website, I already had some confidence in the computer department.

I used an online software called Wix, which I would recommend, along with the platform I now use called Squarespace. I hired out the logo and header design to my friend Kai, and started taking some fun pictures in my basement with my friend Katie. Once I had the pictures and the logo, I plugged it all into Wix. (I've included a picture of one of the first drafts of my website below) Wix allows you to create a website from scratch or from a template, and honestly, you don't really need much computer experience at all to get the hang of it. It's very intuitive. It's just my background with computer work helped me to be more confident and play more.

After that, you just need to pay for it to be hosted (about $10-$20 a month) - and you're off!

Did you ever plan an event or host a workshop that was a total flop?

Yes and no. I've hosted events that had attendance rates much lower than I expected - yes - but I have a fairly strong commitment to just serving people, so in my opinion, a flop would be an event where I was not in the mindset of service.

What is your North Star? Meaning - when life gets crazy and disorganized - what keeps you focused?

Ohh so many things - they mostly all revolve around feeling the deep pain that the much of the world and the animals I love so dearly are in - and then finding the motivation and knowingness that I can be a part of changing it.

Everything that I've done started out when I became intensely interested in environmentalism, while still in University.

Through my research, I discovered so many things going on in this world, to the animals, and the plant kingdom that drove a spear through my heart. (ie. factory farming, animal testing, deforestation, ocean dead zones, etc)

Shortly after this time, I realized that the solution to theses issues was not to be found in addressing all of these problems individually - rather the root of the issue lies in human consciousness. And so, I got to work in addressing how we can all be more loving, more intuitive, and more aligned with our truths. Young women were specifically the people I gravitated to spreading this message to, as I felt I could relate the most to them.

I do what I do, to create a more beautiful, more natural, more loving earth for all beings, now, and in the future. I envision lots of self-sufficient intentional communities, places with cob homes and treehouses in nature, where best friends live side by side, grow food together, raise children together, and have a deep connection with Mama Gaia.

That is my motivation in the grand sense. And myself, along with thousands, maybe even millions of other lightworkers, are helping to usher that, or a similar change in!

Is there any advice you would give to a young woman whose in the beginning stages of starting her healing business?

Yes, lots! And I have a free video training series coming out in a few weeks with a step-by-step process on how to start. The first step in the series, as well as the step I'd like to mention now - is get in touch with the why.

What is your greater motivation?

I know that you, like me, have probably woken up to the change you'd like to see on this planet. So now that you've got your eyes open - what would you like to create, both for yourself, and for the world?

Have a clear understanding of why you're starting, and why it's important. Get really deep with it (as you read above, mine has stemmed from my love of the environment) - and let that guide you.

The entrepreneurial process is intense. It's awesome - like really awesome - but it comes with it's challenges and it's roadblocks. If you have a deep, intrinsic motivation, you'll be able to bust through them just fine.

If you're interested in experiencing this free video training series (4 short videos, that give you instructions, 1 practical step at a time, on how you can go from nothing at all - to a webpage with products and services offered) - please sign up with your name and email below! I'll send them to you within the next few weeks!

Melissa DeLynn // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the sixth in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Today's post comes to us from Melissa DeLynn, a yoga teacher, intuitive healer, and sensual mama whose full of committed connection to All That Is.

Why I love Melissa:

Melissa is a special soul, there is no doubt about it. As she mentions in the article, I met Melissa in Cape Town, South Africa, where we were both working internships, and being exposed to extreme poverty. While not working, I was drinking, partying, hanging on the beach - you know, the usual when you're 19. So were most of the young people I met there. But Melissa was different. She was wandering around the city solo, learning photography, conversing with locals, going to yoga - she had this mysterious edge to her, she made you think. Years later, we are still very much in touch (and I'm so glad) - and I've had the pleasure of watching Melissa blossom into a full on sensual, powerful yogini who I'm quite sure makes anyone do a double take. She's that beautiful, and that powerful.

Why I love this article:

Well first off, I was really intrigued to find out that Cape Town was also the place that sparked Melissa's awakening. I love this piece because it's raw. It goes into how we can access our greatest healing powers through our shadow. It's grounded, truthful, and shows you how interrelated starting your healing business is to... everything. It's not just an aspect of your life, your work flows from the very core of your being. It's a part of the greater tapestry of you. Read on to learn more!

The evolution of my healing business has been exciting, devastating, hilarious, heart opening, life shattering and awakening.

I recently began my 500hr Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. One of the faculty members and fellow yoginis shared this with me over tea - “Healers have the most to heal and teachers have the most to learn.” A soul quake occurred as this simple and complex phrase rippled through me. I finally understood how I found myself where I am today.

I was hurt, traumatized, depressed, anxious, broken and lost. And I was cracked open to the healing powers of the Universe, of Love, of Light. When you lose things, when you let them go, you make space for other things. Whether things are yanked from you or you willingly give them up, there is then a space that you can fill. “Things” here could mean anything- literal physical things that are weighing you down, relationships that don’t serve us, negative thought patterns or behaviors, even the ways we don't treat ourselves well. But as those things leave, the spaciousness and openness that exists in your wide open heart then allows you to make the choice to elevate and serve others.

The story of my awakening happened in 2009. My grandfather, my “Pop,” passed away and the series of life altering events began to domino into every corner of my life. The devastations that occurred led me to leaving the country to get as far away as possible from everything and everyone that I knew.

In 2010 I was living in Cape Town, South Africa - also where I met the beautiful Beth! I honestly feel as if I was asleep at the wheel until this time, I was barely existing. My experiences of awakening truly began here. I was living in the beautiful metropolis of Cape Town and working about 30 minutes outside of the city in Khayelitsha or “new home” in Xhosa - a township city only 14 sq. miles and home to more than 400,000 people. Home to some of the worst poverty, violence and pervasive HIV rates in the world. “WAKE UP!”, the world screamed at me.

She shook me awake.

Look at the devastation. I felt like my inner suffering was being spewed out and reflected back at me. I got out of my experience and felt the true hurt and experiences of others. I have never seen anything as beautiful as that hurt. I was truly woken up.

I began practicing yoga with a few other Westerners I knew once a week in Cape Town. Yoga was my first Tool of Transformation. I continued to practice and when I came back to the states to finish college, one of my dear friends had recently started a yoga teacher training. And so Yoga stayed. And my friend taught me yoga. And then when I was lost and without purpose about what to make of my experience I realized it. Yoga had saved my life and served me in ways that no lyrics could describe. I had to share this gift. I had to help the suffering in the world somehow. I had to help people get free. I had to drag people to the light. I had to help people wake up. I had to hold space for others.

Four years later after my teacher training, I am a full time yoga instructor and intuitive healer.

I teach many classes a week and work as the Yoga Teacher Training coordinator at my home base yoga studio, Savannah Yoga Center. I now host retreats, give private lessons and host workshops. In the works for this coming year- a podcast with my two best friends and healing women, hosting Tarot reading workshops at a local record label- Graveface records, and hosting several retreats this coming year.

As I have developed my professional life as a healer and as an agent for change, my biggest lesson can be described in one word- Diversify. This world is full of opportunities- things to be tasted and experienced. We cannot limit ourselves any longer. We do not fit in boxes, we are not designed to be uniform. Where there is space, there is opportunity for it to be filled with brilliance.

As a Yogi first and foremost, my hope is to infuse every aspect of my life with Spirit. To me, everything can be a spiritual act. Sometimes we lose perspective but when we are living in Service to others, we have to seek balance and intention in all things that we do.  Starting your healing business means acknowledging your own personal power. Knowing and believing in your own strength and abilities is what will draw abundance to you in enumerable ways. Starting your own healing business means that your Dharma(purpose) is to serve others and the world around you.

A few tips to keep you on track:

  • Take care of Yourself. Go to Yoga, take a bath, eat healthy food, drink enough water, sleep, learn something new, spend time in nature, be with people that you love, buy yourself something beautiful because you deserve it. You can’t take care of others if you are not taking care of yourself. You have to be awake and clear to be able to heal others.

  • Know Yourself. You will meet yourself when you begin to spend time with yourself. Not with your phone or the TV. Spend time ALONE. Listen to your body. Your desires. Your intuition. Be still and listen to your inner stirrings.

  • Write. Journal. Blog. A to-do list. Anything. Get your ideas out. This is the first step in manifestation!

  • TRAVEL. Traveling floods you with inspiration, new experiences and new people. Traveling provides you with the space to find yourself and reignite your fire. We have to step away from the labels, roles, schedule and normalcy of our lives and get perspective sometimes.

  • Find Your Tribe! Surround yourself with Light. People who make you feel amazing. People who are seeking the same things as you. People with high standards and good character. People who are silly and make you laugh. People who inspire you! Your tribe/Kula/sangha/community is the glue that holds you together. They help you when you are lost, lonely, broken or just having a terrible day.

  • BREATHE. When we are devastated and confused, we have one thing that can keep us going- breath. When you are overcome with beauty, love or, pleasure- drink in each beautiful unique breath. Feel its uniqueness. Feel it fill you up. Fill yourself with breath and light and positivity and let the things that don't serve you go. Empty out the darkness, the hurt, the stories, the past, the swirling thoughts. Let it go. Keep breathing.

  • Find your teacher/Guru. This can be a life-long search. Search with an open heart and mind. Everything and anyone can be your teacher- traffic, a friend, a stranger, a memory. But a true Guru, teacher or mentor is an important component to your vision.

  • Practice. And most importantly, practice what you preach.

  • Lean into it. When you finally turn your life over to the Universe, when you realize you are part of a huge plan- a beautiful and intellectual plan, you realize that there is only a certain amount of control you have. You can control how you react to life but not what happens. No matter what comes up- beauty or bullshit- lean in. And breathe!

  • Get paid to be who You are. You are special. You have gifts and passions. You are a worthy recipient of abundance. Be open to receiving.

Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu

May All Beings Everywhere Be Happy and Free and May Our Lives Contribute to that Happiness and to that Freedom.

I am so grateful to be a part of this experience!

Namaste

Madeline of Natural Hormone Healing // How She Started Her Healing Business

This post is the fifth in the 'How She Started Her Healing Business' series, where 7 inspiring young entrepreneurs share the story of how they created their holistic careers - giving you inspiration, advice, and a window into how you can do it too!

Today's post comes to us from Madeline, the founder of Natural Hormone Healing! Madeline is a modern day medicine woman, who takes a unique + refreshing approach to helping women find true health.

Why I love Madeline:

Madeline has introduced me to a world of healing that I previously didn't know about. While many of us know about the benefits of green juice, yoga, and the like - she comes in with a distinctly different piece. She honours the traditions of our ancestors, and our undeniable connection to the earth and our wilderness, in a way that's still approachable and doable in our fast paced world. She is, in short, quite brilliant, and when speaking with her, you will be sure to become radically inspired by her vast amount of wisdom! She's a very lovely human being in so many ways. :)

Why I love this article:

Though Madeline is a storehouse of knowledge, she, like so many of us, wasn't exactly equipped with a business GPS at birth. She shares her journey, honestly. The parts that flowed for her, and came naturally, as well as the parts that she struggles with and is still working on today. I love the authenticity of this piece, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I’ve had a passion for health and healing since I was 18.

During my first year of college, I spent a lot of my time watching David Wolfe’s you tube videos on super foods when I should have been studying for my political science degree. It became clear to me where my passions really lay and I dropped out of university to enrol in nutrition school the next year.

I began working in different health food stores, and after my certification, I started working at The Light Cellar, (an amazing boutique style super food shop in Calgary) where I was able to really immerse myself in my passion for medicinal and nutritional herbs, super food nutrition, and the healing arts. It was a really exciting time being surrounded by a hub of people with similar passions. It felt like I found my tribe.

I started to get the confidence to start my own business from teaching classes at The Light Cellar's teaching kitchen.

When I first started I was afraid, but my desire to teach classes felt like a magnetic draw.

I started teaching classes on super foods, women's health and culinary arts. I stumbled through my classes at first but I started getting really positive feedback from participants and my confidence grew.

It was such a blessing to have a stage, to share my gifts and my creativity with a receptive audience. It felt so natural... like I was in my 'genius zone'.  It was one of those progressions that happened naturally without feeling like I had to force anything.

The next step for me was to start seeing private clients which eventually lead to founding naturalhormonehealing.com.

I help women balance their hormones naturally through a combination of food as medicine-based nutrition, herbalism, traditional foods, using the spa as a healing system, stress management rituals and transformational coaching.

I focus on lifestyle approach with my clients. We work together to create an internal and external environment where healing happens naturally.

I started off seeing clients for one-on-one for single sessions but in the last year I’ve transitioned to a coaching based business model where I offer coaching programs. This has been much more sustainable approach for my business and is in more alignment with my lifestyle and the quality of care I give to my clients.

I’ve definitely had many road blocks and challenges along the way... as well as the occasional breakdown.

I’ve even considered quitting a few times, which usually happens right before I have a huge breakthrough.

I’ve also faced a lot of challenges with procrastination. It can be so easy to get distracted in the online world of inspiring information and get information overload. I’ve had to learn to listen to my own intuition about my business instead of following strategies of online marketing gurus.

I’ve found it valuable to set up a time management system with goals for the tasks that need to be done so when I’m on, I’m on...and when I’m off I’m off since it can be so easy for a business to take over all of your free time.

Starting your own business is one of the greatest self (and spiritual) developmental journeys you can go on. The curtain is ripped out in front of you and you are directly faced with your relationship with money, your self worth and your connection to your deep sense of purpose in life.

It's the only way if you to go if you want to continue moving forward. There is no hiding from yourself on the entrepreneurial path!

I love how you get the privilege of developing something that is truly your own and you get to serve the world in your own unique way.

It's a challenge but it's oh so worth it!

If you feel inspired to start your own healing business, I recommend It.

How ever big or small your want to start,  just jump in!  Let your inspiration lead you!
