10 Tips for Sharing Your Vulnerable Stories Online

17807473_10210909441925291_306210526805483617_o.jpg

My heart was feeling a bit woozy. My mind was doubting whether I was doing the right thing, or if this time, it was simply “too much”.

I was just about to press “post” on a very vulnerable and real story for me… one that had only happened a couple of weeks ago. Usually when I post my stories, I’m confident and know I’m doing the right thing. This time, I think the pain was so fresh, and the subject matter so personal, that I had a moment of doubt.

But then my intuition came in and said “Get over it girl, you know this is well-meaning” and I hit ‘Post’!

I had just written a story of a recent heartbreak in Mexico, and I didn’t spare the details. (Well maybe I spared the super sexy details, but that’s besides the point haha)

I shared that story because I had some really big AHA moments that had come from that experience, that I knew could honestly benefit a lot of people. Not only that, but writing is a form of cathartic release for me, and this story was simply bubbling up in me to be told.

Over the next few days, hundreds of comments and messages poured in from women (and some men!) all over the world, that had real moments of awakening upon reading that post. Some women shared they cried, or said that they’d rarely experienced a piece of writing that “got to them” so deeply. I was really moved by those comments. I felt the camaraderie with my sisters, with my tribe, with the collective wounds around the Sacred Masculine - and I felt a deep understanding that sharing my stories is truly a beautiful thing.

The night I posted that story, I had a hit that I wanted to share some tips on how to share vulnerably online. Whether you’re a closeted writer that longs to communicate and express yourself, or a healer who yearns to awaken others through your own stories, there’s lots of reasons to express yourself vulnerably online. One of them also being that in this shiny perfect Instagram obsessed world… realness is hard to come by. Yet that kind of raw authenticity is exactly what’s going to heal this planet, because it brings us a sense of togetherness and tribe that nothing but honesty + authenticity can bring to the table.

So if you want to join me on this mission of authentic sharing, here are my top 10 tips for doing so!

MY TOP 10 TIPS FOR GETTING VULNERABLE ONLINE

1.  Share what feels real & present.

Speak about what feels pertinent and potent in the moment. Don’t go back to an experience you had that no longer brings up any feeling in you, and share that story. We want to FEEL you, we want to go on a JOURNEY with you. So come from a place of feeling. Ask yourself… “What’s real to me right now? What’s present for me? What’s on my heart?” —- And allow yourself to get into that place, and channel the messages that are coming from there.

You’ll know if you hit the sweet spot, if you are moved or have a reaction to what you write, when you go back to read it.

2. Get personal

Sharing vulnerably online is not for the faint of heart. But if you're reading this, you are probably the kind of person that is ready for the plunge.

So I ask.. get personal, and specific. I've read a lot of stories online when the person alludes they're about to get really real.. but then they brush over the actual content of the story that riled them up. For example, they say something like “And then this experience with a lover happened that made me feel ‘less than’ ”, and they move on from there and share their lessons, with little content in the actual story that triggered those lessons.

GIRL, {or BOY… if that’s the case} —- I WANT TO KNOW THE DIRT. Now again, this kind of sharing is NOT for everyone. But if I’m going to relate to you, and if you’re going to really awaken some stuff in me... please be transparent. What happened? Share the specifics of your story. I might have been there too. I might BE there. But I don't know, if you get all general and scared to dish the truth.

Bring us through your story like a fiction book, set the scene, the way it made you feel, the colour of the sky when you walked out of the house... whatever details you feel inspired by. Weave the web. Make us feel like we’re there with you. Get us, the readers, INVOLVED.

Please, of course WITH REGARD for those involved. Do not use names, and if in your story it is obvious who you are talking about, even if no names were used, please get the permission of that person first, before you press send.

3) Own your story first, teach later.

A post that comes from a place of first person storytelling is much more likely to resonate with your audience, than a vanilla statement of what you learned.

For example, let’s go back to my story about heartbreak. I learned a lot about my connection with the Sacred Masculine.

But what if I instead of sharing that personal story (see number 2) — I simply wrote my lessons, with no backstory of where they came from.

Like:

“Girls, it’s so important to honour your inner masculine! Go within and feel into how you are honouring your inner masculine. Do you let him out, or no?

If you don’t honour your inner masculine, you may magnetize experiences with men that hurt or make you feel like you can’t trust them. ”

Is that message true? Yes… but it doesn’t hit me. I don’t feel from it. If the goal is to really resonate with your tribe, and to touch people and affect change, your personal stories are probably the way to go.

Now, to be real, I totally post quick notes and lessons, quotes, and things like that… but if I’m really looking to create a post that’s going to go deeper with people and stir the pot, again - stories are my go-to.

4) Keep it empowered

Sharing our stories is not about us having a pity-party online… I think you get that. We’re not sharing our stories to garner attention, validation, or to use our online tribe as our counsellor.

That’s what our journals are for.

If you’re in the thick of a challenging experience, and haven’t found the lesson, I would suggest continuing to journey through that experience until you can find something empowering and uplifting about it, to include in your message.

Now sometimes you might be having a rough time, have not learned the lesson yet, but still want to share it, to be transparent with your audience. I get that. The empowering message within this simply might be… “I hurt too, and this is my truth right now.”

You’ll be able to tell what the vibe of the post is by how you feel when you read it.

However, I find it really fun to share experiences where I learned a lesson and I can articulate that lesson afterwards, towards the end of the post. Kind of like taking your reader on a heroines journey, and have them go through the challenges and come out the other side with some gold, even if that gold is simply more self-love, and or a shifted perspective.

Bottom line: Leave your readers with a sense of empowerment, rather than having them confused about what your actual point is.

5) Honour that some people just won’t get it

The online world is a crazy place. You’ve got to be prepared for feedback of all kinds. Most of the comments and messages I get from my stories are really powerful, positive, and introspective on the readers part. Often our stories spark meaningful dialogue that feels really good to be a part of.

But inevitably, there’s going to be some people who just don’t get it. Maybe your story sparked their ego, because it reminds them of themselves, and they’re not ready to face those demons yet.

Maybe they misunderstood your post, and think you’re saying something you’re not.

Maybe they’re just a big meanie. I don’t know. But sometimes you’re going to get comments that aren’t so nice.

Honour that, as a part of your journey to sovereignty, and as help in letting go of giving a fuck what people think.

Personally when I get negative comments, I still get upset, even if it’s just for 20 seconds. Again, this is a great opportunity for me to see where I’m still looking for validation from other people.

My advice? Don’t feed the fire. Ignore the haters. HATAS GONNA HATE. Just keep spreading the love, and shift your focus to how awesome you are, and how great your heart is.

IMG_8912.jpg

6) Share a raw photo

I’ve seen some really beautiful and heartfelt sharings, accompanied by generic photos, or of paintings that are not by the writer. This creates a bit of separation, between the personal, vulnerable nature of your post, and the first impression people get of it - the picture!
I’d recommend a raw / real photo of yourself, or of something connected to the story to accompany your posts. I love high quality pictures - as in, photos with good resolution - however if that’s not available to you, that’s fine.

Keep in mind people are going to be reading YOUR words, so if you have a photo with your eyes, embodying an emotion that relates to the story, that’s going to connect with people more deeply. We’re hardwired for connection through eye contact! This picture is going to draw people in to read your story.

7) Keep some things for yourself

This is probably obvious, but you don’t need to share every single one of your vulnerable stories online. Keep what feels private, or even unhealed, to yourself or your close friends or family.

8) Share it!

You just poured a bit of your soul into a piece of writing, with the intention to serve both yourself, and your tribe. So honour that delicious effort you just went through, and make sure to share that story where your target audience can see it!

I don’t just share my stories on my FB page and Instagram, I also post them on my blog, send them out to my email list AND I post them to different FB groups I’m apart of, who I feel would resonate or be served by the message.

This may push you past your comfort zone..but ahhh fuck it. That’s where all the juice lives anyhow.

9) Don’t censor yourself

Notice how I just dropped an f-bomb? Yeah.. that’s because that’s how I speak, and that’s what just came through naturally. (My Mom hates it however, but guess what, she can share her own stories her way! Teehee. Love you Mom! ;))

Remember - this isn’t English class. You get to speak however you want to speak. If you want to swear, use slang, include smileys, make breaks in your writing, tell jokes —- have at ‘er! Show your personality! It’s all you baby!

And remember, the spirit of sharing your vulnerability is just that —- getting real, raw, and uncensored. Claim your truth! And if people get offended, refer to number 5.

10) Honour your intuition above all

And of course, last but not least, throw any of my tips out the window if your intuition tells you something different. Your inner guidance trumps all!

Lastly, I wanted to mention some reasons why you might benefit from sharing your stories online:

  • You'll be creating authentic connections, both on and offline

  • You'll be serving people, and helping other people who might need to feel like they're not alone

  • You'll attract clients to you, you can really help, if you're an entrepreneur who offers your healing gifts out into the world - they'll be able to know you, and trust you, because you're showing up in a very real way. People work with those who they trust and feel safe with. You'll also have shown that you've gone through what they might be going through, and have wisdom to share with them.

  • You'll feel the inspired movement of energy & creativity flow through your being as you share what's real

So there you have it folks, 10 tips for getting vulnerable online. I hope this served you!

Don't have tons of money, or the perfect man? Here's why that's perfectly OK...

I've got to be real with you....

I'm a little bit tired of going on to someone's website, blog posts, etc --- and then seeing them say: "I have lots of money, the perfect partner, and all the material things I wished for! I'm living the life of my dreams --- Let me show you how!"

Patriarchy is just washed all over that.

Listen sister...

This path is challenging. Earth life is challenging.

Sometimes we don't get what we want, sometimes our soul wants us to stay single to truly and deeply learn and grow.... sometimes the money doesn't show up, or we are re-routed to a better option that will simply take more time. Sometimes our path of learning takes longer than someone else's. Sometimes we are doing deep work for the collective, and we need to look a certain things, and feel our pain. Sometimes we have past life issues that we are working with, which others don't.

If you are not running a successful business, don't have tons of money, don't have the perfect partnership...

There is nothing wrong with you.

Your soul knows what it's doing.

At the end of the day self-love is what really matters.
How you feel about YOU really matters.
Your connection to the Divine + to the Earth really matters.

There is nothing wrong with wanting beautiful things and beautiful relationships in your life... but I can't help but feel that many use the outside appearance of their successes for personal gain... without telling the whole story.

I encourage myself, and the rest of us... to let go of the comparing mind and realize that most of these fancy stories are simply marketing ploys to make you want to work with someone, and spend money with them.

I can tell you this because I use to do the same thing.

I remember sitting at the computer a few years ago, thinking how I could spin my life to make it sound REALLY AMAZING.. so I could build enough credibility to do what I wanted to do... coach and teach. Sure there were lots of awesome things going on in my life... but at that time I was dealing with a bit of depression.

Me trying to spin my life in a picture perfect way...  didn't last long. My soul knew better. Ups and downs are a part of the journey. Everything is temporary. Including the man. Including the money. We all die. All things release. It is the way of things.

Just a reminder... you are whole. You are perfect as you are. Your journey is unique. You are right where you need to be.

Are you unclear about what you want to offer the world? Read this!

Do you feel unclear about what you want to offer the world? Like you don’t know exactly where your gifts lie… so you’re going to wait for them to show, or invest in more training, before creating offers to give to the world?

Here’s the thing… when I started my business, then called Waves of Fire… I wasn’t offering angel readings, or spiritual business coaching.

I had really no idea that my work would evolve into that. I simply knew I was called to be of service.

And one day - I had an idea to offer crystal necklaces to spiritually-minded women, as a starting point.

Now, it’s not like I was insanely passionate about creating jewelry, and knew it was my calling - in fact, I’d never made a crystal necklace in my life. But I loved crystals, and I knew that it was a product that would be aligned with what I really wanted to be doing - spiritual teaching.

So I started creating the necklaces, and created a website - in which I shared many blog posts and videos - aimed at waking other young women up, and guiding them to listen to their inner voice + learn more about the spiritual path, in fun, and relatable ways.

After many months of offering these necklaces, and having conversations with many female clients - I realized I was starting to get messages from the angelic realms, that I was asked to pass on. Within a few months of offering channeled guidance - on a casual + free basis for my crystal clients - I realized that I could start offering stand-along channeling sessions.

Once I started offering angel readings, something fell into place.

I had this feeling, after the readings, that I’d never had before - like I was meant to be doing this work. Like I was really and truly helping people. It was like a click.

I’d never really had that feeling with crystal necklaces, even though I loved them. So I said goodbye to offering them, and walked into the role of a full-time coach - something that would have surprised me a year earlier.

Since then, I’ve been coaching, teaching, and now - helping other women create their own spiritually-based businesses.

I’m sharing this with you, because I realize that you may still feel unclear about what you have to offer.

You feel called to go deeper with your spiritual work - you feel like you could really help people with your personal stories, or maybe through healing potions, giving bodywork, or teaching yoga - but how it all comes together still may feel fuzzy.

Where do your gifts truly lie? What should you be offering as a product or service? What if you’re no good at it? What if you’re OK at it but someone else is better?

Well sister - I encourage you to chill out, and just start somewhere - because the way will unfold as you start walking.

No I was not über passionate about creating jewelry. No I did not feel like it was my ultimate calling in life. BUT I was curious. And I followed my curiosity, as Elizabeth Gilbert says. And when I did so, it eventually DID lead me to the click. (And by the way, there were many more ‘clicks’ to follow - it’s not just one thing in specific we’re meant to be doing - but more on that later). The point is - I started. I didn’t have the perfect roadmap, I didn’t know how it would all work. But I started. And that made all the difference.

If I waited around for my life purpose to fall into my lap, rather than just going out and doing what I could, with what I had - I wouldn't be sitting here writing this to you. Haha - I would probably still be waiting.

But that’s not my style - and, correct me if I’m wrong - but, I don’t think that’s your style either.

You’re a fire starter, a change maker - someone who came to this earth to give massive healing + love, any way you could.

What a girl reading tarot at a party, taught me...

The other night I was at a party. Now when I'm at parties... I gravitate to one of two things.... Dancing like a crazy person OR if there isn't much in the way of music or a dancefloor.... having meaningful conversations, away from the chaos.

Well this party had a teensy dancefloor, but when one is a cosmic gypsy, one can get only so into Rihanna before one must go for greener pastures. (And OK, usually I would be down with some Rihanna, but I was also a bit sleepy this evening)

I was about to head out the door, when the birthday girl said "Hey, I'm going to get my cards read upstairs! Want to come?" My thoughts...

a) Yes!

b) Obviously

c) Haha, I'm not the one reading the cards! When does this ever happen?! Excellent! I shall get to observe!

...

So I went upstairs, and proceeded to watch a lovely young lady give readings to two of my friends, with a tarot deck she carried around in her purse. It was a treat to watch one of them, who obviously leaned towards the side of skepticism, really open up and acknowledge that some true and real guidance was coming forth.

At one point, the girl giving the readings, said she'd only been reading tarot for about 2 months.

Immediately, I felt warm, like... warm inside. Hahaha. "This is what it's about!" I thought --- a girl wanting to be of service to the world, a girl who has recently delved into her mystical side, and is just saying - let's go! Let's do it! Let's help the world! Let's carry around tarot cards in my purse and be the weirdo who does readings at parties!

Now please note - this girl did not have:

a) A fancy website

b) Money being offered to her to do these readings

c) More than 2 months experience

And yet she gave the readings willingly, and had a really positive effect on 2 people. I know for sure that both of these people, 2 friends of mine,  have benefited from the guidance that they received and will keep it in mind for many moons.

...

Now I'm not saying you shouldn't have a website or receive money for doing readings, or whatever healing it is you offer.

What I am saying is --- this is where it starts, and this is the root of it:

Spreading your healing energy wherever you go. Because you can.

I have a website, and get paid to do readings, but I also prance the street anonymously, leaving love messages on bulletin boards, and meaningful messages in chalk for those who pass by. I often carry palo santo or sage with me, and offer to smudge people, many times, people who I barely know or who I've just met. Etc etc etc.

That's what it's about. Whether you choose to enter into healing / the mystical arts as a profession or not ---- the energy is the same. You are called to serve. You know you can be of assistance. And you don't need much to change someone's day - a piece of paper, and a marker, a deck of tarot cards, a piece of chalk, or even just a smile that comes from the heart.

That is the work. Be a healer 24/7 --- not just when you're doing it in a professional setting.

Go to parties, share the love. Frolic in the streets, and sing your song. Go to the broken and the beaten, and give them hugs.

And the thing is, if you DO desire to do this work professionally - it happens naturally from there. Because you're telling Spirit - "Hey! I'm doing the work! I'm BEING the change!" --- and then the people, situations, and ideas you need to take it to the next level, magnetize to you, because you're already in the energy of that which you desire.

And yet, so many gifted healers, intuitives, and lightworkers, sit at home, or in jobs they don't feel great in, and go... "One day I'll be that healer. One day I'll be helping people. But I need more _______ (training, money, time, skill, luck, guidance, technology know-how, etc.)" in order to get there."

Sister, sister, siSTAR! Maybe now you can see that you do indeed have what you need at your fingertips.

And that's where that feeling of purpose you so deeply crave, lies.

Not in that website (although that can help spread the message), or in that healing center you want to create (although that will be epic) ---- because those are future things, and your purpose always lies in the NOW.

And then of course, the irony is when we focus our energy in the NOW and what we can do, with what we have.... the things we want, actually manifest much more easily and quickly.

So, I ask you --- what are ways you can spread the magic + love vibes, TODAY?

Can you make signs with inspiring quotes to put around your community? Can you volunteer for a non-profit in your area that really inspires you? Can you put Fairy Oracle cards in your purse, and give readings to people wherever you go?

Lady Lightworkers: ☽ How to Get Clear on Your Gifts + Offerings ☾ {VIDEO + RITUAL}

Recently I opened up my journal, to find my intentions from my ritual on the New Moon in Scorpio, about 6 months ago.

One of my main intentions was to get clear on my business.

'What to work on? What to offer? Where to spend my time?' And not only that... when we search for clarity, it's like this full body search for a KNOWINGNESS that just helps us to feel good, whole, and totally complete in the moment.

Clarity is a big form of abundance, that doesn't get talked about so often.

Anyhoo... it is now the Full Moon in Scorpio, and may I tell you, my ritual worked! (Obvi...:D) Here I am, typing this away, feeling crazy clear on my business. I am super clear on my gifts, what I can offer, what to spend my time on, and I literally have the next 6 months of my biz mapped out because I just know what to do... and let me tell you... that has never happened before!

The point of this magical story is that RITUAL, setting clear intentions, and doing one more thing (that I will mention in the video), can definitely bring you the clarity you need.

Mostly when we think manifesting, we thing external things coming our way. But you better believe we can manifest states of being... in this case, CLARITY. Clarity on your gifts, and what you would love to offer the world in your beautiful spiritually-based business.

Watch the video below... You are about to get super clear on your gifts, your future offerings, and where to most effectively spend your time + energy.

3 Steps To Get Clear On Your Gifts, So You Can Offer Them To The World

4.5 years ago I was in my final days of studying Finance, and I felt like if I looked at one more spreadsheet or textbook under way-too-bright fluorescent lights, I would die. (Thankfully that didn't happen...) Most of my attention had shifted from scholarly pursuits to the world of angels, intuition, and spiritual growth

And as such, I was getting ready to leave the idea of a career in Finance behind. I was dating an entrepreneur at the time, and his spark had ignited me --- somehow I knew I was meant to go out and forge my own path, I knew I was meant to share my newfound spiritual connection with others. I knew I was meant to be of service.

But I didn't know how. I didn't know what it would look like.

Lucky for me, upon graduation my choices were clear. Go out and get a job, or figure out what I wanted to offer the world, and get to it.

I chose the latter. I started my business, then called Waves of Fire, in January 2012, and decided to offer crystal necklaces as one of my main offerings. Within a few months, requests for custom pieces started, and I began to have lots of 1-on-1 conversations with many women who were looking for spiritual healing + a deeper connection.

While connecting with these women, I discovered that I was receiving messages from the angelic realms (messages like "I think you have some past life issues to heal with your father.".. started to come through), and by September, I was offering free 1 hour angel sessions to those who were interested.

Fast forward a few years, and my list of offerings continued to evolve, based on my new experiences: Natural skin care + herbal products, custom made dreamcatchers, meditation coaching, workshops about angels, a meditation album, and more!

Through the process of playing, and just trying things out, I was finding my groove - slowly, but surely.

Now, I mainly offer intuitive business coaching for young women, and totally LOVE it! This feels super true to my soul, and I know it's a valuable service. I feel clear. I'm supported financially, and fed spiritually. This is where I'm meant to be. I'm using my natural gifts, and I can feel it.

But as you can see, this clarity didn't happen overnight. Nor did the skill set. (It took me years to develop + understand what I now teach.)

Over the next week, I'm going to be sharing 3 key steps with you. that I took in order to reach this clarity + confidence in my work. Yes, this clarity will take some time + work, but it's worth it. Knowing what you want to do in the world, and actually doing it, is priceless.

Step 1:  P L A Y !

You might be wanting to pinpoint something specific to offer the world, but it's only when you try things out and play around, that you'll get the clarity you seek!

Clarity comes, not from the head, but is felt in the body. You can think about doing something for months, but if you don't actually act on it and try it, you'll never know if it's truly right for you. It's acting on our ideas that gives us a tangible sense of: Yes, No, or Maybe (With Some Tweaking!)

Here are some steps to start playing:

  • Create a simple website with a blog (I recommend Squarespace), and start talking about whatever inspires you. A recipe for pizza dough you invented last night, that time you went skinny dipping with your girlfriends, or perhaps a flash of insight your received in meditation last week. I don't care how random it is. Let yourself be silly until you find the subject matter that lights you up! Be sure to share your stories with our Facebook group, and with your followers on social media.

  • If you're wondering if coaching or healing work is for you, offer free sessions to people in your community or online. Try different things. Offer angel card readings, reiki sessions, nutrition coaching, crystal healings, herbal consults, or whatever else stokes your fire! Keep in mind - these sessions will be for free, so there is no pressure! Just try it, and you'll find your guinea pigs are quite receptive. People love to help, and be helped. As you hold these sessions, you'll get experience, and will get new ideas for other offerings. (Please note, thinking about what you would do in a session, is much different than actually holding a session--- ie. thinking about offering sessions doesn't count. Only hosting them does! So get on it, magical laday!)

  • Take workshops, volunteer with local non-profits, and learn new things! I significantly deepened my connection to Mother Earth when I started volunteering for a local environmental non-profit. This helped me understand that no matter what I talked about, the earth would be a main feature of my work. What about you? Are there any courses you can take to learn more about something you are interested in? Do you feel drawn to a certain cause? Go get your hands dirty, learn new things, and connect with people who share your interests. You never know where it will take you!

Please note... YOU HAVE AMAZING GIFTS INSIDE OF YOU. You are not some exception... you are incredibly gifted. You have come here for a reason. If you have a desire to share your wellness wisdom or healing work with the world, it is because you are MEANT TO! So please, commit to this journey of playing, because there is GOLD inside of you, waiting to be re-discovered and shared with the world.

Stay tuned for Parts 2 + 3 coming in the next week, all about how to find clarity + rediscover your gifts! Be sure to sign up below to receive the next juicy tips! :D
